Name: Rich Handby
Email: president@bcafl.org
Location: Leeds
Occupation: Human Resource and Payroll Manager
Primary Point of Contact for: External Relations, Appeals, Elite Programme.
History: Richard first became involved with football as a founder member of the Leeds Cougars Youth team, former members of which are still to be found scattered far and wide in BSAFA, back in the days of full contact unkitted football.
As a member of a small GB All-star team got his first taste of kitted football while on a trip to the US where he was able to spend time training with Yale and Columbia University. While in New England he was able to 'throw' around with Patriots Steve Grogan and Andre Tippet. These experiences are sited as one of the driving forces behind the desire to develop the game in the UK - but don't ask him about them unless you have a lot of spare time!
Having spent time with several different senior programmes as player and coach he was recruited as Head Coach for the Leeds Celtics - helping them to win College Bowl X in his first season and a posting a 34-7 and two bowl appearances in four years.
A baptism of fire, due to last minute resignations, after volunteering to help on the NMC as Northern Conference Director saw the development of the use of emails for registration while covering the vacant Southern role. Following restructure Richard acted as Director of Football for two years before taking over as President in 2001.
